Render Cleaning Cardiff School- Cardiff School Cleaning Project

The render at Hawthorn School in Cardiff was looking a little lacklustre. This was not the fault of the school, but of the substrate itself. While render holds its colours for many years it often becomes contaminated by microorganisms that live in the air- these then form organic growth- that discolours render substrates. As you can see from the video this growth was beginning to take hold of the render at Hawthorn School in Cardiff.

As a responsible Cardiff area school the management of Hawthorn wanted to improve the condition of the render. If school buildings look worn out and neglected it can have a knock on effect on both the morale and eventually even the performance of staff and pupils alike. With this in mind Softwashing UK  were delighted to take on this contract- to restore the render finish at Hawthorn school to its former glory. There was also brickwork at the school that required a treatment- and elevated aspects of the role that needed accessing.

Hawthorn School

Hawthorn school is based in Llandaff- an historic area of Cardiff, that is famed for its Cathedral, and once being home to Roald Dahl. The school offer a broad curriculum, with over 50 of its pupils taking regular music lessons. Softwashing UK were proud to contribute to the continued excellence of the school, albeit in a small way by cleaning the render.

Cardiff School Render Cleaning Project

This job consisted of three parts- steam cleaning the building, biocidal application, and then another steam clean.

The building was steam cleaned using the Doff Steam Cleaning system- this system uses tightly controlled high temperatures to remove much dirt and pollution. In order to remove the discolouration and protect the building from further immediate re-contamination a biocidal application was also applied. This was applied carefully to avoid the chance of any run-off- to keep health and safety at its optimum. Softwashing UK also used specialist access equipment to reach the higher elevations of the school buildings, specifically a Spider MEWP.
